Studies have reported faster closure of surgical wounds, lower rates of surgical failure, better quality of newly formed bone and a reduced need for repeat procedures in high-risk patients who received hyperbaric oxygen therapy during the postoperative period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following oral and maxillofacial surgery, hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be used as adjunctive biological support, usually beginning on the second or third postoperative day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the early phase, the objectives are to reduce postoperative inflammation and oedema, strengthen immune defence against possible infection and improve oxygen delivery to flaps and surgical wounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
